Muscle Strength

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes see a small guy completely dominate and out-muscle a much larger opponent? Or how about the reason why a person can bench press over 300 lbs. in the gym, but hurt their low back from lifting a 30 lb. television stand while helping a friend move?

Both of these are common scenarios, even though they may not seem to make sense. True muscle strength is not as simple as just making your muscles bigger or stronger through lifting weights, it's mainly about how you work them.

The human body is built to move weight - even massive amounts of weight - but it is also built to stabilize itself while moving it. This is where most people go wrong. If you primarily train on benches, seats or machines, then you are working your body in an unnatural setting, and the strength you build will be one-dimensional.

This is why we use functional training, the most effective style of training for applicable strength.

Functional training puts the body in an environment where it has to stabilize itself while moving heavy resistance.

It's the best of both worlds - you build size and/or strength, but you also build the functional capability to use it outside of the weight room.
